New Color Mutations

When it comes to new color mutations in Melanics, the judgment may change since each new color mutation takes on a different form from it's original due to modifications in the melanin's design. It is completely opposite from the new color Lipochromes. Some new color mutations are for certain mutations and some are exclusive to only one of the classic mutation since the other classic mutations cannot produce the same effect.

Pastel

Effect: Dilution of eumelanic pigments

Genotype: rz/rz or rz/0

Black Pastel

Heritage: Black, Oxidized, Sex Linked

Effect: Dilution of eumelanic pigments change Black into Anthracite Gray

Primary Feathers- Black eumelanin concentrated on outer edge and scatters inside.

Coverts and Tiertiary Feathers- Black eumelanin concentrates on inner zone and disperse outer.

Head- Feather centers must be concentrated with eumelanin and scattered towards edges of feather

Dorsal- Stretch marks formed by contrast in between concentrated and disperse.

White Black Pastel

Brown Pastel

Heritage: Brown, Oxidized, Sex Linked

Effect: Dilution of eumelanic pigments change from Brown to Dense oxidized Brown. The balance between brown eumelanin and pheomelanin makes the design on the back disappear. Long feathers have dark marks

Yellow Brown Pastel Mosaic Hen

Non Intensive Red Brown Pastel

Agate Pastel

Heritage: Black, Diluted, Sex Linked

Effect: Dilution made the black color turn into an Iron Gray tone. Stretch marks are found on head, wings and flanks. Dispersed melanins have minimal expression.

Intensive Yellow Agate Pastel

Non Intensive Yellow Agate Pastel

Non Intensive Red Agate Pastel

Red Agate Pastel Mosaic Male

Isabel Pastel

Heritage: Brown, Diluted, Sex Linked

Effect: Slight presence and low quality of eumelanin and pheomelanin which changes

Light Beige color into a very Light Beige color that is visible on long feathers. Just like brown there is no design.

Dominant White Isabel Pastel

Yellow Isabel Pastel Mosaic Hen

Greywing

Heritage: Black Mutation Only, Sex Linked

Effect: No striations design it is now ocellated. Black colors turns into a Pearl Gray hue. There is concentrated melanin and the edge of the feather with long feathers being slightly darker gray than back design. Long feathers should show a strong contrast between the dark edges and pearl gray mid area. (A further dilution of black pastel)

Genotype: ag/ag

White Black Greywing

Yellow Black Greywing Mosaic

Opal

Effect: Causes Inversion of melanic pigments. They are Deposited at the lower layer of feathers. Alters tonality to an opalescence giving a bluish hue due to an optical effect of light refraction.

Wing/Tail Feathers- shows most opalescence plumage concentrates on inner zone of feather and disperses outward.

Genotype: so/so
