To those who may or may not know Carlo Maria Nobili here’s an introduction. He began to breed as a child and joined the C.O.M. federation in 1990 with 4 pairs of Yellow Agate Pastels. The offsprings of those Yellow Agate Pastels made him win his first ever regional championship. Then he decided to add White Agate Pastels to his arsenal and in 1995 he won first in his category and second overall at the world championship in Udine, Italy which he had dominated with for over a decade. Nobili has breed almost all melanic canaries.
He also bred Agate Pastels in Red, Yellow birth being Intensive, Non Intensive and Mosaics, the same for Brown Pastels. Additionally his White Blacks, White Black Onyx, A series of Topaz and Eumo of different varieties as well. He became a judge for F.O.I. in 2000 and O.M.J. in 2012. He's currently in no organization. As the years passed on he began adding more canaries into his arsenal and here are his accomplishments he’s made throughout his career. Here's a list of some of his accomplishments.

He currently breeds Black Pearl in all black types and all varieties. Then he breeds the cobalt blacks, white and intense reds / frosted and the black onyx white and yellow mosaic. But his latest and recent Nobili discovered a mutation he named the Black Pearl in Monza, Italy 2015 by crossing A Black White Onyx Male to a Black White Carrier of Onyx Female. It was discovered In this mutation the phenotype differs from all others. His reaction was from astonishment because it was never foreseen from a consildated stock of black and multi-sample of onyxes from Italy were both affected by the Perla Mutation. The 4 offsprings were completely different. Being that he was an International Judge O.M.J. it helped him understand instantaneously it was a new mutation. He said he didn’t believe he created a mutation but was only able to recognize a new mutation. In 2016 he talked about the Black Pearl Type 1 with slight traces of drawing .Currently it’s only available in the black mutation and the effects are making all striations and markings almost gone but you can still see the melanin being dispersed in the ground color in between the striations. The color is a gray pearl except for the tips of its wings and tail feathers which have melanin giving them a darker tone. The beak and legs are melanize and their underflue is gray. When they are newborns the color of their eyes are blue but darkens when they get older and looks as if they are lipochrome having a white plumage. While in the process of breeding the black pearl another different variant presented itself creating the Black Pearl Type 2 which showed more melanin giving it visible striations with the same couple who made him discover Type 1 in 2017. Type 2 had a background with more marked design of reinforced melanins more powerful than the others. Something he;s still trying to study. There has not been an intermediate factors between the two types. Type 1 black pearls can create type 1 and type 2 but type 2 can only produced type 2. Another man who has study the black pearl closely named Gianmaria Bertarini believes it is a result of imperfect types of human albinism. It is also believed to have copied the Himalayan Siamese Cat especially since they have blue eyes. There are other mammals with this mutation such as rats, guinea pigs and rabbits too. Oxidation is possible but not fully due to the albinoid gene.
So what does the future hold for the Black Pearl?
Well Nobili responded by stating that he is focusing on blacks as well as white and red mosaics and in uni sense intense Red Pearl and Black Pearl with Intense Yellow and Mosaic. There is a competition standard for the Black Pearl since 2018 in Italy and at an international level he is starting the practice of recognition since it is a sensational mutation that has nothing to do with all other existing mutations. But the Black Pearl was just the tip of the iceberg. He hopes in the future he can produce Brown Pearl, Agate Pearl, and Isabel pearl for recognition. There is a lot of work to do and a long way to go but he ensures in time he’ll get everything so for this moment he continues to study. So this isn’t the last time we hear from Carlo Nobili but yet just the beginning.
